PORTRAITS
...have always fascinated me. I am magically drawn to them in every museum and I sink into them.
You want to immerse yourself in the person, learn their story... There is so much in a face, a look, an attitude, the things around the person. It's not just about a moment in their life, but about their whole being, their hopes, dreams, disappointments and hardships.
This portrait, “Sonja” by Christian Schad, particularly captivated me, so I copied it and entered into a dialog with her. Nevertheless, she never quite opened up to me. Perhaps it is the mystery in portraits that binds us to them, because it is never revealed, because we will always have questions.
